NOTD: Lilac+Silver/Glitter Accent Nails

For today's manicure I used an OPI nail color that I've always loved, repurchased & never seem to tire of. I also added silver accent nails for a little extra sparkle!

Sally Hansen Complete Care Extra Nourishing 4 in 1 Treatment
OPI nail polish in Do You Lilac It -  One of my all time favorites. Just one coat & you're in business. In addition to that, the formula of this polish is incredible. It always applies like a dream!
Sally Hansen XTreme Wear Nail Color in Celeb City (14) - Love this shimmery silver!
Sally Hansen XTreme Wear Nail Color in In The Spotlight (440) - I used this polish as a top coat (on my accent nails only) because my silver polish got a little goopy & I wanted to make sure it didn't smudge! I use this polish pretty frequently to top off my manis. Mmm sparkly holographic goodness.

...aaaaand the song I'm listening to at the moment.

You, you lift my heart up, when the rest of me is down
You, you enchant me, even when you're not around

Spotlight Makeup: Britney Spears

I don't usually post anything for "#ThrowbackThursday" or "#FlashbackFriday" but I think I'd like to make it a series on my blog so I can recreate past looks that I love. This one is a super simple Britney look from her 2000 video for "Oops!...I Did It Again". I did this after a long day and none of the photos came out right so these are going to be utter shit. To be fair, I've been sick! But, since then I've updated my camera and will continue to snap the pics during the day. Lesson learned - promise.

This is honestly an incredibly easy look but one I've been secretly wanting to recreate since I saw the video for the first time.

It's just a wash of matte white from lid to browbone, super pale grey/blue for a touch of depth in the crease/along the lashlines, frosty white shadow in the inner corners & white kohl pencil in the waterline! Britney wore subtle falsies so I opted for half lashes & a few coats of deep black mascara. For the cheeks I used a soft pink blush similar to her's & contoured very lightly. Lastly, for the lips I used a light pinky/nude lipstick & topped it off with some super shiny gloss.

'Cause to lose all my senses, that is just so typically me.

Make sure to check back for more Beauty On A Budget looks coming in the next few days! Thanks for stopping by!

Beauty On A Budget: Neutral With A Twist + Pink Pouty Lips

& we're back! It's been longer than I would've wanted between posts (I was on a roll - drat!) but of course both my laptop and my cell phone would crap out on the same day... *muffled sobbing* Ah & then I broke out in hives after dinner tonight (was it the pad Thai? what a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad few days!...woe is me!...etc.etc.etc).
Wellp, no sense wallowing! The most important thing is that we're here now so lets get this going 'cuz the show must go on!

This is the look I wore out to dinner earlier tonight which was done with all drugstore/dollar store makeup. Let's save a couple bucks, shall we?!

Since it's so hot out I wanted to simplify my routine a bit so I rummaged through my collection of pre-made palettes & settled on a shimmery neutral trio by Wet 'n Wild ($2.99).

I decided to take the look a step further by adding a pop of color in the form of some brightly colored  NYX liner ($4.49) & lined my waterline with my new favorite pencil liner by Wet 'n Wild ($3.49). For the lips I tried out 2 of my newest Dollar Tree Finds - a shimmery pink lipstick & lipgloss combo (NYC + LA Colors = $2.00)! Time for more specifics!

The trio:
Wet 'n Wild Walking On Eggshells trio

The liquid liner:
NYX Studio Liquid Liner in Extreme Blue

The pencil liner:
Wet 'n Wild Fergie On Edge Longwearing Eye Pencil in Midnight Girl

The lipstick/lipgloss:
NYC lipstick in Snowcone/LA Colors Moisturizing gloss (no name on tube)

Midnight Girl liner/Extreme Blue liquid liner/Trio (Browbone, Crease, Lid in that order)
L: Lipstick R: Gloss

The Look:

I followed the instructions right on the trio itself for this one & added liner. Piece of cake!
*Note* Added a coat or 2 of black CoverGirl mascara.

Eyeshadow trio: As you've already seen, this is a shimmery 3 color shadow set which consists of a peachy nude Eyelid color, golden brown Crease shade & a pearly white Browbone shade. Each shadow is nicely pigmented & shimmery (but not glittery). I was apprehensive about wearing 3 shimmery shadows at the same time (I prefer a matte highlight) but didn't feel like deviating from the trio so I went ahead & slapped 'em on anyway. The colors are all very subtle and not as vibrant on my eyes as they appear in the swatches. I'm quite fair so they seemed to disappear into my lids a bit (especially when I used a fluffier brush to blend). However, my camera did suck out a bit of the color, to be fair. Overall, I think the shadows are universally flattering & the shimmer is actually really pretty and subdued enough to wear during the day. I also think this trio would look awesome on olive (or darker) complexions. You can layer the colors up a bit to deepen them but they still wont be bold or flashy so if you're looking for something neutral/natural these are a great deal. Plus, they're super easy to blend & work with.

Liquid liner: Personally, I love this liquid liner. I love metallics & I'm on a blue kick lately so this was the perfect little embellishment for my neutral eye look. It applies smoothly & the applicator is thin & easy to use. The color is opaque & has great pigmentation as well as staying power. I also loved how it sort of changed the shape of my eyes (they look less round if you compare to my previous post, for example), especially when I added the black eye pencil to my waterline. Most liners will do that for you depending on how you apply them but since I don't usually wear liner on my top lid, it was kinda cool to mess with the application. I wore this for many hours both indoors & outdoors (in the heat). By the end of the night it was still in place...no cracking or smudging! Needless to say, I'll be checking the other colors out.

Pencil liner: This eye pencil is part of the Fergie collection by Wet 'n Wild & is also my new favorite! I usually set all of my eyeliners with a black shadow but I haven't felt the need to do that with this product. It's rich, smooth & opaque. It also applies evenly both on lids & the waterline & stays put! It's also easy to use & comes in packaging reminiscent of higher end brands. I'm definitely interested in the other colors. As far as Midnight Girl is concerned, though, it's an absolute steal!

Lipstick: This frosty pink isn't my favorite (hmmm it sorta gives me 90s vibes) & feels a bit like play makeup. The packaging is kinda flimsy & cheap looking but the product inside is passable, especially for a buck. I think layering gloss over it really helped the overall look. It kind of just looked like I was wearing a sheer pinky lipgloss.

Lip gloss: This gloss is non sticky, moisturizing, pink tinted & smells sweet. I actually like it & I'm sure I'll be layering it over loads of pink lipsticks.

It wouldn't be a proper post if I didn't include a song, right? I'm still listening to OCD's Living Out Loud album & this is definitely one of my favorite tracks (Back To The Wall). So chiiiillllll. I need chill...since I'm still hella swollen, red & patchy. Guess I'm staying in tomorrow. Time to turn back into a pumpkin & take my makeup off. 'Til next time!

I want you to stay, here and now
I feel like a wave crashing down
I want you stay, all night long
I got my back to the wall

Beauty On A Budget: Blue Smokey Eyes

I just couldn't pass up the Wet 'n Wild section at Walgreens when I went in to repurchase my favorite moisturizer. They were having a sale so I decided to pick up a few new things to try. The palettes immediately caught my attention because I like products that take the guess work out of getting ready sometimes. All the colors you need in one little palette! The one I chose to work with today is called the I'm His Breezey palette. I thought it would be cool to do a non traditional smokey eye & work with some fun colors since it is Summer, after all! At $2.99 (sale price) I figured it was a steal. Let's play!

The palette:

Shadows swatched over primer.

The Look

To achieve this look, I didn't completely follow the instructions that came with the palette. Here's a quick guide to how I did it!

1.) Apply the Crease color to the outer part of the eye &, of course, the crease! I also used this to line my lower lash line.
2.) Pat the Eyelid color onto the lid. I didn't want mine any higher than my crease since these colors are bright & I had to run to Target afterwards.
3.) Apply the Definer color to the outer v and smooth some into the crease for depth.
4.) Use the Definer color to line the top lid and then sweep a tiny bit under the eye as a liner to define a bit more.
5.) Apply the Base color to the inner corners of the eye to brighten the eyes & create more of a gradient.
6.) With a fluffy brush, apply some of the Browbone color just above the crease of the eye & use it to blend your crease so there's no harsh lines.
7.) Line the waterline with a black liner for more of a smokey look.

Note: I also applied a matte beige highlight under my brows.

Despite the mixed reviews on this product, I have to say that I like it overall. The colors are bright & quite beautiful. I wish that my camera hadn't sucked the color out of some of my pics but the pigmentation is pretty decent. Be prepared to pack them on a bit, though, if you want ultimate color payoff. The Crease color is probably the most vibrant. The least vibrant is the Base color but that isn't a big deal considering I would only use it to highlight the inner corners of my eyes. It takes a bit of patience to blend these shadows but the end result is worth the hassle in my opinion. I was also pleased to see that there was minimal fallout under my eyes when I completed the look. I definitely recommend using a base (I used a primer & NYX Milk eye pencil) to make the colors really pop. I would also recommend deviating slightly from the suggestions on the package. I tried using the colors the way they are recommended but the Browbone color is way too shimmery and blue to use under the brow. I recommend using it to blend the crease with instead. The base color is also too shimmery and takes away from the blue when used as a highlight. I would recommend either a different slightly shimmery highlight or a matte one like I used here. The little applicators it comes with are useless, by the way. I'd recommend using a flat brush to pack on all the colors & a fluffy one to blend (I used only 2 for this whole look). I think if I had extended the shadow some it would have given me some Britney Slave 4 U vibes. I didn't want to take it up too high, though, because I have a lot of lid space & want it to be wearable & not clowny. Overall, I would totally recommend this palette especially for the price.

Going to end this post with another Jhameel video because he's absolutely amazing & rocking my world lately. He slays this cover & its absolutely beautiful. Enjoy!

To call for hands of above, to lean on
Wouldn't be good enough for me, no...

Tutorial: Date Makeup

This is a simple little date night look that I love. It emphasizes the eyes by brightening & giving depth but is still natural enough to wear throughout the day. Its also neutral enough to go with whatever you're wearing (making it a great option for those of us who try on half of our closets before a night out haha).

Let's get started!

Here's what I used:

1.) Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer (not pictured above - sowwy mama forgot)
2.) Urban Decay original Naked Palette (colors used: Virgin, Sin, Half Baked & Hustle)
3.) Chanel single shadow in Safari
4.) Revlon ColorStay single shadow (the color rubbed off but I'm fairly certain its Bone)
5.) NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk
6.) CoverGirl lash blast volume mascara in Very Black
7.) Revlon lash curler
8.) Froot Loops flavored lip balm in Cherry
9.) Chanel Rouge Coco Shine lipstick in Deauville (#67)
10.) Lancome Ultra Shiny Juicy Tubes Lip Gloss in Simmer

Lets set the mood a little...

Here we go - step by step!

Prime those lids, hunty. I'm sure we've all heard this before but using a primer will really help to keep the shadows on all night long (which is especially important in the summer heat). Use a small dot on each eye and blend all the way up to your brow bone. Don't go overboard with this or your shadows will crease.

Take a crease brush & begin applying a taupe shadow on the outer portion of your eye. I am using Chanel's Safari shadow. This is one of my all time favorites but if you're looking for a cheaper alternative, Maybelline makes a pretty dead on dupe (check it out here).

Work that taupe color into your crease. This will give the eyes a bit of natural looking dimension. Sometimes I apply shadow a bit above my crease as well (but not too far up) because I have a decent amount of lid space to work with. If you go up too high, though, you can fix that later. If you have less lid space, apply the taupe only in the crease.

Use that fluffy blush to blend blend blend, gurl.

Apply NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk (white eye crayon) to the inner corners of your eyes. Make sure to apply some on your lower lash line too (but don't go further than the inner third of your eyeball). I took a bit of the product and applied it above the inner corners as well (for extra brightening).

Blend the product out using your ring finger. I blended from the lower lash line up and onto the brow bone. This will help brighten the eyes and make your highlight color pop.

You should end up with something like this when the eye crayon is blended.

Using a wide fluffy brush I applied my highlight color just below my brows. I'm using Revlon's Bone single shadow which is matte & makes for a perfect non flashy highlight. I also eliminated any harsh lines by blending it down to the taupe crease color I applied earlier.

Taking a flat brush I applied Urban Decay's Half Baked shadow which is a shimmery golden bronze color. I applied this on the middle portion of the lid.

I flipped that same flat brush over and applied Urban Decay's Sin eyeshadow (shimmery pinky champagne shade) right next to Half Baked getting closer to the inner corners.

Next, I cleaned off that same flat brush and applied Urban Decay's Virgin eyeshadow (light beige champagne shade) where I placed the Milk eye pencil earlier. I blended the shadow into the corner of my eyes and underneath to highlight.

Applying Virgin in the tear ducts (inner corners).

Taking a pencil brush I lined my eyes with Urban Decay's Hustle (a cool shimmery brown shade). I love this step because it really defines my eyes and makes my lashes look fuller. It also gives a subtle smokey effect. Don't go past the part of your eye that you highlighted in the last step.

I also used Hustle to line my lower lash line. This is a great alternative to harsh black liners & I never worry about it smudging or melting down my face (even in the summer time).

Next I curled my lashes.

& applied 2 coats of my favorite mascara! :)

For a more dramatic take on this look:
Take a pencil brush and run a black shimmery shadow along your upper and lower lash lines & outer v. Add some black eyeliner to the waterline. Finish with falsies.

I applied Chanel's Rouge Coco Shine lipstick in Deauville (pinkish brown nude). These are so moisturizing and awesome. Worth every penny in my opinion.

For added shine I topped off my lipstick with Lancome Simmer lip gloss (shimmery peachy bronze). Its not very sticky & smells like Fruity Pebbles. Mmmm. Kith kith.

Here's a swatch:

Left: Lipstick/Right: Lip Gloss

& voila - you're date ready!

Woops, don't forget to change out of your Walmart tee...

Pick me up at 7?

Monthly Favorites: June 2014

Favorite new products and rediscovered products from the month of June.

1.) Dove beauty bar - I used to use this daily and forgot how much I love it. I swapped out my regular liquid body wash for it this month & it seems I'm hooked again. Leaves skin feeling fresh, soft and lightly scented.
2.) Bath & Body Works fragrance mist in Pink Chiffon - I've used this on and off for quite some time. It's sort of the quintessential "girly" scent because of its sweetness but it isn't overpowering or headache inducing. The scent lingers for quite some time, especially when paired with the corresponding body lotion. I always get compliments when I spritz this on.
3.) 365 (Whole Foods) Maximum Moisture body lotion. Ultra emollient for dry skin & contains macadamia oil & shea butter. It smells fresh & absorbs quickly. The best part?  - NO parabens, NO sodium lauryl sulfate, NO sodium laureth sulfate, NO artificial fragrance, NO animal ingredients & NOT tested on animals for those of you with sensitive skin or simply looking for natural & non irritating alternatives.
4.) Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue perfume - This longtime favorite has been my go-to for the month of June. It smells - you guessed it! -  fresh and clean (I'm sensing a theme here). Perfect for day time, night time or a date - ooh lala.
5.) Bed Head After Party smoothing cream - I don't use very many hair products but I'm always looking for something to tame flyaways and smooth out my ends. This product is expensive so I opted to get the mini version to test it out. I use this on dry hair and it restores shine, tames frizzies & leaves my hair smelling amazing. I think the mini version is actually a better buy than the regular size (because a little dime sized amount of this stuff goes a long way & you get a decent amount of product in the mini).
6.) L'Oreal Revitalift double lifting eye cream - Now that I'm in my mid 20's I've been looking to take some preventative measures against puffy eyes & crows feet. This 2 in one product has 2 separate creams (& 2 separate pumps for convenience). The left side is for the under eyes and the right is for upper eyes/lids. It firmed my top lids & is non irritating & unscented.
7.) Bath & Body Works pocketbac in Island Margarita - I don't normally go for scents named after drinks but this smells amazing & people always wonder what I've just put on when I use it in public. I have a drawer full of these little guys. If only it came in a hand cream!
8.) Lorac TANtalizer highlighter & matte bronzer duo - I swapped out my usual MAC bronzer for this when I spotted it in the checkout section at Ulta. It doesn't clog my pores and is blendable and easy to contour with. The powder highlight that comes with it is perfection & the sleek rose gold packaging is super cute. I love the convenience of having both my bronzer & highlight in one little compact.
9.) CoverGirl lash blast volume in Very Black - Went back to this mascara after buying up loads of others. Love this for thick lashes. Great formula.
10.) CoverGirl lip slick in Demure - I bought this for the first time when I was in grade school. Its a beautiful pinky nude shade that tones down the dark pink in my natural lips. Its moisturizing and the scent definitely takes me back.
11.) Physicians Formula concealer duo in Yellow/Light - Easy to blend formula. I haven't used the Yellow side much but the Light side gives great coverage underneath the eyes & around the nose.

***BONUS non beauty faves***

I've been obsessed with infused water lately so I keep my decanter refilled at all times. So refreshing & simple! Haha & check out my little dresser buddy WALL-E in the background.

I've also been loving me some Jhameel & I've had this track on repeat all month (along with MJ's Xscape album). I think this song is my favorite of his & I love his style.

What's In My Makeup Bag?

I haven't always felt the need to carry a makeup bag in my purse because I rarely reapply anything other than lipstick/gloss & the occasional dab of powder. However, after being in a few situations where I could have definitely used a quick and easy touch up, I decided to update my stash! Lately I've found myself reaching for the same essentials so...here's the stuff that weighs down my purse! Enjoy! :)

Click the photo to enlarge!
1.) Brush set by Forever 21 - The mint/floral handles are what drew me in. They do the trick in a pinch!
2.) Acqua di Gioia perfume rollerball by Armani - I consider this a night time scent of sorts. Its clean & fresh but still quite strong. I think this could almost be unisex.
3.) Original Lip Injection by Too Faced - Lip plumping lip gloss. Full pouty lips in minutes.
4.) 010 Light Smart Shade Smart Balance pressed powder by Almay
5.) Hot pink hair tie
6.) Medium sized hair clip
7.) Black Nourishing Eye Liner by Neutrogena - Not my favorite but applies easily so its great on the go.
8.) Syrup lipstick by MAC - One of my favorite go-to lip colors (cool toned pink).
9.) 105 Blush Burst Baby Lips by Maybelline - Love this little baby. Super hydrating. My lips love it.
10.) Boy Rouge Coco Shine lipstick by Chanel - A staple in my lipstick collection. Hydrating, smooth formula and beautiful muted rosy pink color.
11.) Blackest Black The Rocket Volum' Express mascara by Maybelline
12.) Tuscan Blood Orange perfume rollerball by Pacifica - Fresh, sweet and orangey. My daytime pick-me-up scent.
13.) 01 Copper Spice ColorStay 12 Hour Eyeshadow quad by Revlon - Amazing pigmentation. Perfect for day or night. A favorite since high school!
